Summary
OB-Xf is an open-source software synthesizer project that continues and modernizes the last open source release of OB-Xd. It is inspired by the classic Oberheim OB-X synthesizer and is currently in beta but considered feature stable and functional.
Features
- Continuation and modernization of OB-Xd synthesizer developments by 2DaT and discoDSP.
- Compatibility with OB-Xd patches and banks, supporting import of existing OB-Xd files with pitch reference corrections.
- Available builds for Windows (x64/ARM64/ARM64EC), macOS (signed DMG), and Linux (DEB for x86_64 Ubuntu 20).
- Plugin formats and standalone builds generated via CMake build system.
- Work in progress support for iOS/iPadOS as AUv3 and standalone versions; requires self-building due to GPLv3 licensing constraints and App Store incompatibility.
- Licensed under GPLv3, guaranteeing free use, modification, and commercial application with source code access.
Installation and Building
Prebuilt installers and builds are provided on the GitHub releases page for various platforms. Building from source requires using CMake and installation of factory assets. iOS support is experimental and requires manual building through Xcode.
Audience
This synthesizer is suited for users interested in open-source virtual analog synthesizers inspired by classic hardware and who are comfortable with beta software and possibly building from source, including developers and enthusiasts on multiple desktop platforms and iOS devices.
