Algorithmic reverb plugin designed for large ethereal decays and pitch-shifted soundscapes with versatile reverb and pitch modes

Overview

Valhalla Shimmer is an algorithmic reverb plugin designed to create large, ethereal decay effects and pitch-shifting soundscapes. It aims to produce a smooth, dense, and transparent reverb decay suitable for a wide range of acoustic environments from concert halls to expansive ambiances. The plugin offers four reverb modes and five pitch shift modes, allowing extensive customization of the reverberation character and pitch-shifting behavior.

Features

  • Four Reverb Modes: Mono, Small Stereo, Medium Stereo, Big Stereo, each offering varying reverb sizes and densities.
  • Five Pitch Shift Modes: Single, Dual, SingleReverse, DualReverse, and Bypass, enabling classic shimmer effects as well as smoother, organ-like or pipe organ sounds.
  • Tone controls including two tone knobs and a Color Mode selector to adjust timbre from bright and clear to a darker, vintage-style decay.
  • Optimized algorithm to deliver large reverb sounds efficiently without heavy CPU usage.
  • Compatibility with 64-bit VST2.4, VST3, AAX, and AU plugin formats on Windows and macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon processors).
  • Real-time tweakable controls with smoothed response to prevent clicks during automation or parameter changes.

Reverb Modes Details

  • Mono: Large base size with high echo density, suitable for monumental acoustic spaces.
  • Big Stereo: High echo density in a stereo-in/out algorithm, ideal for traditional hall reverbs and fast harmonic builds.
  • Medium Stereo: Medium base size with stereo input and output, balances density and size.
  • Small Stereo: Smaller base size with more coloration and lower echo density, good for short ambiences and smaller room effects.

Pitch Shift Modes Details

  • Single: Classic shimmer upwards or downwards pitch shift in feedback loop.
  • Dual: Simultaneous upward and downward pitch shifting in parallel feedback paths.
  • SingleReverse: Each grain is reversed before pitch shifting, creating smoother pitch transitions.
  • DualReverse: Similar to Dual but with reversed grains, suitable for pipe organ-like sounds.
  • Bypass: Disables pitch shifting for conventional reverb sounds where feedback controls decay.

Tone and Color

Users can select between Bright and Dark color modes. Bright mode provides a full bandwidth, modern hi-fi reverb sound, while Dark mode emulates vintage digital reverbs with steep high-frequency attenuation above 10 kHz.

Compatibility and System Requirements

  • Windows 7/8/10/11 (64-bit)
  • macOS 10.9 and later including Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, and newer
  • Supports Intel and Apple Silicon (M1 through M5) processors natively
  • Plugin formats: VST2.4, VST3, AAX, AU (64-bit)
