Convolution reverb plugin that simulates and transforms unique real architectural acoustic spaces for interactive sound design

Summary

Environments is a convolution reverb plugin that uses impulse responses from remarkable architectural spaces with unique acoustic characteristics. It transforms reverberation into an interactive, evolving sound experience by letting users explore and shape the acoustic environment in real time.

Features

  • Convolution engine combining multiple impulse responses for lifelike depth and presence
  • Room section allowing movement within captured environments to reshape their acoustic character
  • Modulation effects add subtle motion and variation over time
  • Gestures layer adding a convolution of sounds and resonances collected from found objects and custom gear, enabling live sound design within the space
  • Includes impulse responses from three unique acoustic locations: Temple of Mercury, Piscina Mirabilis, and Cisternone
  • Available on macOS, Windows, Linux as VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP plugins and on iOS/iPadOS as AUv3 and standalone
  • Resizable user interface with preset system and randomizer
  • Two LFOs for modulation and controls for brightness and contrast
  • Offers offline and online activation without dongles or constant internet connection

Notable Acoustic Environments

  • Temple of Mercury: A 1st-century BC Roman thermal hall with hemispherical architecture producing unique echo effects.
  • Piscina Mirabilis: The largest ancient Roman freshwater cistern, known as the 'Water Cathedral', with massive pillars and vaulted ceilings.
  • Cisternone: A Neoclassical 19th-century water reservoir with a metaphysical atmosphere created by its architecture and lighting.

Additional Information

The Gestures convolution layer was developed using the Spare Parts Sound Project by the artist Salvatore Carannante, who blends classical music and electronic experimentation with unique sound design based on acoustic spaces and found objects.

The plugin is offered with a free demo version having some limitations and a purchase price of €69. Users who own the related Fog Convolver plugin can get an upgrade discount.
